How 'bout a message when a user logs in for when they have public QNs off? That way people don't say hi to them without knowing they're talking to the air. lol. Just an idea. So and so has just logged in. So and so has public quicknotes turned off.
And a very good idea. True, we can just select them in the combo box to see, but I've said hi to many a person with publics off.
this is a great idea:)
If you type /upub in the edit box, you will see the list of all users who have publics on. Andn like someone else has already said, if you want to know about a particular person, just get their name in the combo box to check.
Right. Just saying though, it would be more convenient if it said (publics off) next to a user's name in the links list.
They really can't put a lot of information next to user names. I don't think every possible bit of information needs to be right there. There are several ways to find out whether someone has publics on or off, and it's not really that much work. I'm not putting you down specifically, but I've noticed a lot of people seem extremely lazy and don't want to have to work to get information.
good idea, if it is technically possible. perhaps it would say if the person's publics are on or off, only when they first sign in, and not be something written next to their names for the duration of the session.
Just like when a user is muzzled and it says "muzzled all" next to their name.
can you get any lazier than that?
seriously, people; are a few keystrokes gonna make you not wanna come onto the zone simply cause all the information you want to be viewable without having to look for it yourself, isn't?
get a grip, and realize that sometimes, not everything in life is easy.
What the hell do you care? It wouldn't even affect you.
Wow... it seems technology has made people extremely lazy lol! Honestly, it's really not that difficult to find out whether someone has publics on or off (and this is coming from someone who is in no way a computer expert)
And no, life is not always convenient or easy but you've got to figure out a way to deal with it and not expect everyone else to fix it for you. Smile.
I agree it's not difficult to find out if someone's publics are on or not, but it is a pretty good idea. I don't think it'd do much hurt. Actually I was thinking about this the other day when I said hi to someone in publics and then figured out their publics were off lol, felt so stupid. Idk, I think it's a pretty good idea, what would it hurt to have a little (Publics off) after their loggin? Good idea, makes us lazy asses proud. :P
Exactly, Jess!
Generally, most people who have publics off almost always have them off. So just sort of keep a mental note. so and so has their publics off so I'll have to message them privately. Besides, if you say hi to someone and they have publics off, you laugh about it, feel awkward for a few minutes and then move on. I'm not against the idea in the least. After all, I'm one of those with my publics off and therefore don't need such a feature, so I've obviously never had that awkward moment, but like others have said, if you're worried about embarrassing yourself, select their name in the combo box first. It only takes a couple extra seconds, and you'll save yourself that awkward moment, plus you have the added advantage of already having the person's name selected so you can go ahead and say hi if their publics happen to be off.
Good points.
Some other chat site would have an icon, indicating the state of each user's publics. Showing the state of publics next to each user's name, no biggy. Just turn the current user display into a tabular one with a few columns-- 'name', 'pub status', ... What other columns would people like to have at a glance, so to speak? Yes, the information is available in the combo box, but, asking for something to be made convenient is not a mark of un-due laziness.
A good idea I think, LV.
I just realized a couple days ago that "/UPUB" minus the quotes will give you a list of users with publics on. Another option to figure out if the user you want to say hi to has their publics on.
My appologies. I just saw that Becky already mentioned that. But my point still remains. If the site had *no* way to see whether someone had publics on or not, I'd say this was a great idea and the staff should definitely consider it. But since there is, I think other bugs/suggestions take priority, at least the ones that have no work around at this point.
How about making it a preff, so those that want it have it, and those that don't, won't?
I personally think its a feature that some would like much more than others, but honestly their's no reason to take the time to downtrod an idea just because it wouldn't be something that personally would effect you?
Honestly, i've noticed alot of this assinine behavior on this sight.
I say do it for those that want it if its possible, and those who don't, just ignore it.
I don't know if its something i'd really like or not, but that's no reason to make a big to doo just because...
I agree with James, 100%, good point bud.
Agreed. just because you might not use it yourself, there's not a good reason not to make it an option, so it now is.
I have to admit, now that it is available, I decided to go into my account settings and check the checkbox. Even though there are several other ways to check whether someone has publics on or not, I have to admit it is nice to see that info at the top of the page.
Good suggestion, and thanks for making it optional.
